When times get tough we have a tendency to search after God. Do you have true biblical faith? The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God. Furthermore it says that they that are in the flesh cannot please God? How is it that you and I can please God? And in pleasing Him, how can we know that we have eternal life? How does a person get saved?
1). Realize you are spiritually dead as the result of your sin (Eph. 2:1-3, 5; Rom. 3:23; 6:23; Rom. 5:12; Rev. 21:8).
2). Realize you can't make yourself spiritually alive through good works, the keeping of commandments, sacraments, or religious experiences... You are truly lost (John 3:3, 18-21; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Rom. 10:3-4).
3). Realize that Jesus can save you. He died on the cross, paying the penalty for your sins. In rising from the dead He shows he has the power to overcome death...including spiritual death (John 3:16, 36; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:24-28; 4:24-25; I Pet. 1:23).
4). Believe what the Bible says. God's Word tells us that we are saved through faith. Faith is believing what God tells us in the Bible. He promises to save anyone who calls upon Him in faith, because He alone has the power to forgive sins and grant eternal life (Rom. 10:9-10, 13; Romans 10:17; Heb. 11:6; Matt. 9:6; John 11:25).
5). Receive the gift of eternal life through faith. Gifts are given by grace, not through merit or works. Eternal life is no different. Jesus wants to make you spiritually alive, aka born again, and He will cause that to happen to you if you receive Christ by faith as your Savior (John 1:12-13; 3:6; Romans 3:24-28; Romans 4:2-5, 22-24; Romans. 11:6; Eph. 2:8-9; I John 5:11-13; I Pet. 1:23)
What are you risking your eternity on: what you can do for God, or what Jesus did for you? God promised to save those who put their trust in Christ alone for their salvation. God doesn't break His promises. What He promises to do, He will do. The question is will you believe it? True biblical faith is believing all God's promises given to us in the Bible.
