IN THIS VIDEO In 2015, Austin Oldfield disappeared in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest after leaving his home state of Kentucky for a few weeks of camping in the Pacific Northwest. His grubby appearance on the trip and odd encounters with locals led some to dismiss Austin as a transient drug addict and simply not worth looking for, but there's so much more to the story.
After hearing years of reports about people who seem to disappear into the wild, I decided to dig a little deeper.
On August 6, 2016 I set out to find Austin Oldfield, who has been missing for 10 months. Austin left Kentucky for a month long camping trip in the Cascades Mountains, not far from Portland, Oregon. Before he vanished, two hunters witnessed him acting strangely.
I continue to trace his last known steps and search for clues. His disappearance caused me to ask- Why did Austin disappear? What where his motives? Where might he have gone. How can I avoid hazards on my own adventures?
