Sierra Leone has a total area of 71,740 km2 and an estimated population of 7.9million people. Sierra Leone has 16 different ethnic groups, each with a different language. It’s known for its white-sandy beaches lining the Freetown Peninsula.

10. Mount Bintumani, Loma Mountains
Also known as Loma Mansa, Mount Bintumani is the highest peak in Sierra Leone and the Loma Mountains, at 1,945m. It lies in the Loma Mountains and its lower slopes are covered in rainforests and a wide variety of animals. These include pygmy hippopotamuses, dwarf crocodiles, rufous fishing-owls and numerous primates.Mount Bintumani is one of the best mountains for riders. This mountain has its own beauty which can make its different identity among others. It’s a great place to climb up, hiking and mountaineering. If you are looking for an offbeat experience, then Mount Bintumani, the highest peak in Sierra Leone is the place for you. 9. Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Freetown
Located just on the outskirts of Freetown, in the Western Area Peninsula National Park, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary was founded in 1995 by conservationist Bala Amarasekaran and his wife Sharmila. Initially established to enforce wildlife laws and rescue and rehabilitate orphaned chimpanzees, Tacugama has grown into a diverse conservation organization.Caring for close to 100 chimpanzees on-site, Tacugama is also actively engaged offsite in community outreach, wildlife field research, environmental sustainability, conservation education and alternative livelihoods programs.Tacugama is also an eco-tourism hub for Freetown home to 6 eco-lodges, and a variety of activities for both tourists and Free towners alike to participate in.If you are a nature lover and want to escape from the hurly-burly of the city life, then the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary located in close proximity to the picturesque village of Regent will be a perfect place for you. 8. Martello Tower
The Martello tower built to guard the Freetown from frequent attacks during the 19th century is of a great historical significance. The tower was built on the Tower Hill in round shape to serve as a powerful artillery several times. It is also said that a water tank at the base of the tower served as one of the major water supplies for the town in the early 1870s. Climb up the tower to enjoy the magnificent views of the city and learn more about the historic monument. The tower like many of its replicas around the world became obsolete with the introduction of more modern and sophisticated artillery and was dumbed for demolition. It was proclaimed a national monument to safe it from demolition when the new Parliament Building of Sierra Leone was built in 1960.
