In terms of China it must always be ‘Australia first’

In terms of China it must always be ‘Australia first’ Liberal Senator Alex Antic says Australia’s experience with China’s Education Ministry and Chinese students shows how reliant we are on China and “to the whims of the Chinese Communist Party”.

The Chinese Education Ministry has released a statement urging its students to “do a risk assessment” and strongly reconsider travelling to Australia to attend university.

The statement said the spread of the “new global pneumonia” has not been “effectively controlled” causing further risks to international travel and open campuses.

Senator Antic told Sky News host Peter Gleeson it seems China has taken the view it’s going to put its “capital into countries which have signed up to the Belt and Roads Initiative” which means it has clearly “shown their hand in terms of their foreign investment”.

“This is as much to do with strategic leverage and who (China) can use in order to influence, as much as it is to actually making a dollar.

“For Australia’s point of view, its always got to be about Australia first, it’s always got to be about what’s in our national interest.”
